Abstract

The relationship between body and policy is central in the history of societies. In this particular case, this relationship is discussed in centralized Argentinean state policies about Physical Education, focus on the ideas of educate bodies to improve the race. The aim is to analyze the passage from rhetorical hygienist discourses of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century to the eugenic interpretations of the 1920s and 1930s, and how it configures some of the current arguments of the Physical Education.

Eduardo Galak, Profesor en Educación Física (UNLP), Magíster en Educación Corporal y Doctor en Ciencias Sociales (UNLP). Becario post-doctoral por la Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES-Brasil) en la Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG-Brasil). Director del Proyecto de Investigación “Prácticas corporales institucionalizadas en el área metropolitana sur de la Provincia de Buenos Aires” (UNDAVCyT 2012). Profesor Adjunto de la cátedra de “Antropología y Sociología del Deporte y la Actividad Física” (UNDAV) y Ayudante Diplomado de Educación Física 5 (UNLP). Miembro del Centro Interdisciplinario de Cuerpo, Educación y Sociedad (CICES-IdIHCS-UNLP). Compiló los libros Estudios sociales sobre el cuerpo: prácticas, saberes, discursos en perspectiva (ESEditora, 2011) y Cuerpo y Educación Física.
