Max Fisher’s book The Chaos Machine discusses social networks’ impact on contemporary society. The author analyses how the algorithms of these platforms influence the spread of disinformation, political polarization, and the transformation of social interactions. His approach involves a critical analysis of digital communication and its effects on democracy, mental health, and the perception of reality. The reflections indicate that social networks shape user behavior, favor sensationalist discourse, and create information bubbles. The author highlights the role of technology companies in maintaining this system and the need for greater transparency and regulation. Fisher’s book helps us establish a dialogue with Science Information and Museology and addresses the challenges of curating reliable content. From the book reviewed, we conclude that it is necessary to combat disinformation and strengthen critical thinking in the face of growing digital influence.
