The construction of homosexuality meanings in the brazilian media

Journalism, understood as a meaning builder of reality, is a discourse that should represent the diversity of thoughts in a society. Although, the representations of gays build in journalism discourse may determinate or intensify the homosexuals’ marginalization in society. Through analysis of news about gays couples that adopted children in the TV program Globo Reporter of Rede Globo, we sought to contribute in this article with the discussion about the construction of homosexuality by the brazilian media. The search of the social recognizes, under the discourse of citizenship conquer, will be succeeded when the media change the arbitrary meaning of dominant culture in brazilian society into parallels cultures understanding as diversity.
