Abstract

In contemporary science, Higher Education Institutions, Funding Agencies, Government Bodies, and Research Institutions have been demanding the development of a Data Management Plan, a document that establishes mandatory procedures for research data management intended to aid throughout the entire academic research process. Against this backdrop, this research aimed to analyze the process of creation and applicability of the Data Management Plan in the field of Biodiversity within the Federal University of Paraíba. The investigation was qualitative, applied, and interventionist in nature. The action-research method was utilized to describe and evaluate the implementation of the Plan. The findings delineate a process that included stages of: (a) planning, involving preliminary research on existing Data Management Plans, goal setting, task organization, assigning responsibilities, and establishing deadlines; (b) action, via a trial application of the developed Plan; (c) description, the phase of systematizing the planning process, drafting, and proposing enhancements; and (d) evaluation, based on analyzing the Plan to correct inconsistencies and refine the final outcome. It is concluded that documenting and sharing the process of the DMP’s development, application, and evaluation is beneficial for the exchange of ideas and experiences. It also aids in encouraging other researchers and Higher Education Institutions to adopt this tool for managing the data of their inquiries, thus broadening the spectrum of research possibilities and data transparency through publication.
