Abstract

Fred Halliday, a British scholar who died in April 2010, was one of the big names in international studies over the past four decades, especially as a lecturer at the London School of Economics (LSE) from 1985 to 2008. He was part of a select group of scholars who adopted a critical theoretical perspective in the study of International Relations and maintained a politically engaged stance. Halliday was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1946, studied at Oxford and graduated in Oriental Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.
