Abstract

Based on the historical process of the relation between art and technological implements, the concept and the possible understanding of the classical terms of presence and scenic area is discussed. Some Brazilian productions are cited to illustrate the evolution of the use of technical implements by the performing arts, and to set examples of its possible application and purposes. Several authors are brought in as a reference to the debate about the importance and the role of this practice in the production of the contemporary scene.
