DEVELOPMENT OF A DIGITAL SERIAL ALBUM OF PROCEDURES PERFORMED IN AN ADULT INTENSIVE CARE UNIT IN GUARANI

Abstract

Objective: To develop a digital series of Nursing procedures in the Guarani language, performed in an adult intensive care unit (ICU) at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD), located in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, for indigenous patients who are native speakers of the Guarani language. Method: First, a literature review was conducted on Guarani culture and the creation of educational materials. Subsequently, the most commonly performed Nursing procedures in the ICU were listed and designed using Inkscape® software, and captions were added containing explanations about the selected procedures, their execution steps, and their purpose. The caption texts were transcribed into Guarani language audio. The writing of the captions in Guarani and the narration of the audio in Guarani were done by one of the authors, who is an indigenous person fluent in Portuguese and a native speaker of Guarani. Results: Nine Nursing procedures were represented, described, and narrated in the Guarani language, forming the final version of the digital album. Conclusion: It is hoped that this album can contribute to more effective communication between the Nursing team and indigenous patients. Future studies should evaluate the use of this technology in the unit with the target population.
