A Meeting at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” or On Onion Growing
Keywords:
Grotowski, Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, Physical Action, Actor, TheatreAbstract
The text is based on the transcript, revised by the author, of A. R. Ciamara of part of a seminar given by the author in 2000 at the University of Rome “La Sapienza.” The text is constructed on the basis of the author’s answers to questions on important themes for understanding the work of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards. It deals with the issue of Grotowski’s legacy, problematising work without audience and the concept of physical action. The text also discusses the function of vocal vibration in the work of Grotowski and the Workcenter and discusses the difficulty in defining and putting into words certain dimensions of their work. Finally, the text questions the relationship between those who work with theatre and those who study it, and the meaning of working as an actor.Downloads
