The theoretical presuppositions of community communication and their status as political alternative to the monopoly media

The current concentration of the mass media, caused by global competitiveness and improved by technological acceleration, has tumed important sectors of the organized civil society to simply consumers of the information produced by the national and international media corporations. To halt that supremacy in the symbolic assets market, a production characterized as communitarian communication, within its many possibilities, has gained projection, and it has established itself as an important alternative on the struggle for hegemony on the communication field.The aim of this work is to identify and understand the major conceptual elements that define the communitarian communication and to mark demarcate its presence in a globalized society context framed portrayed by the media monopoly, as well as to point out some of their cultural and political potentialities.
