Imaginary. Image. Tree of images. Symbolic power.Abstract
Recovering the possible consensuses between the concept of image and its perceptive representation, this article presents a third way - examining the problem of the image from its symbolic origin. The analysis considers both the subjectivity and the objectivity of the image to propose not only a classification, but also a hierarchical order according to its symbolic fertility. In order to do so, it presents the tree of images metaphor, in which the leaves correspond to the relation with the outside world, the imagery; the trunk, which could be called the imaginary, allows the transit between the tree crown and the roots – which would shelter the imaginal, in correlation with the archetypical substrate. From this illustration, it is possible to observe the cycle of the images, understanding how their numerous manifestations are linked to an overriding amalgam which gives the images a symbolic power, neither limited to the concept nor to the sense, as it precedes them both.Downloads
