Abstract

This photographic essay is based on the second chapter of my doctoral thesis. The study focused on the social spatial organization of a French coal mine’ community, and dealt with the forms of housing and worker dwellings. The thesis entitled Once upon a time there was a mining town: La Grand-Combe, a study of social anthropology from 1992 (Sorbonne, Paris V), highlights the living conditions of a coal work community, narrated by the last generation of workers witch whom I lived from 1987 to 1991. Multiple temporalities are encompassed: the times of the Company, times of Nationalization, times of crisis and reenchantment.
