Abstract

Intralingual translation (or INTRA) is a very common communicative phenomenon in our society. However, it has received little attention from researchers in Translation Studies. This article addresses, based on bibliographical research and reports of previous case studies, a bit of INTRA's universe. It discusses its definition, in a broad and strict sense, its place in Translation Studies, some of its different types and some insights into its descriptive aspects. Also, it presents the relationship between INTRA and accessibility. The first twenty articles from Google Scholar, ten in English and ten in Portuguese, were selected, as well as authors who have stood out in studies on INTRA. It was observed that INTRA is a complex phenomenon, which has been growing with the demands for simple language, and which requires broader descriptive and explanatory studies.
