O projeto escolanovista no Rio Grande do Norte: uma das dimensões práxicas das pautas modernizadoras do governo José Augusto Bezerra de Medeiros (1924-1927)
Abstract
Este trabalho é parte da tese de doutorado intitulada José Augusto Bezerra de Medeiros: vida, educação, política. Investiga a remodelação da educação escolar no Rio Grande do Norte durante o governo de José Augusto, inscrita num programa de reformas culturais, na perspectiva de construção de estilos urbanos modernos de sentir e viver, face às exigências que uma sociedade urbano industrial demandava. Nelas, procurou-se disseminar a educação sem universalizá-la para todos em idade escolar visando à educação da mentalidade dos indivíduos na integração à vida moderna, formando-se as elites intelectuais, portadores do conhecimento especializado, atribuindo-se, às mesmas, o papel de reformadores sociais.

Abstract
This article is part of a doctoral thesis entitled José Augusto Bezerra de Medeiros: life, education and politics. It investigates the school education remodeling in José Augusto's government, as included in a cultural reform program which had the perspective of building modern urban ways of feeling and living, due to the requirements of an urban-industrial society. Such reforms had the objective to spread education without universalizing it to everybody at school age and aimed at the education of the mentality of individuals in the process of their integration into modern life, forming the intellectual elite who had specialized know ledge and to whom was ascribed the role of social reformers.
