Abstract

This text presents the results of a study that investigated the relationship between the press and women's education based on the analysis of periodicals classified as "women's issues" from the Linhares Collection, produced in Belo Horizonte between 1900 and 1953. The aim was to discuss how this type of press intended to educate women, questioning the representation of being a woman at that time, as well as the possible absences related to non-white, poor and working women. The methodology used was to analyze women's periodicals, paying attention to the textual elements and materiality, and the data was examined in light of studies in the field of social history and decoloniality. It was concluded that the themes addressed and the educational projects presented in the publications intended to educate women as good mothers, wives and housewives, with the female representation being, in particular, white women from the elite, with little or no space for non-white, poor and working women.
