Escola Normal de São Paulo: uma leitura de espaços compartilhados (1846-1894)

Abstract

This article addresses the history of the Escola Normal de São Paulo, from 1846 to 1894, as an establishment for training primary teachers, based on an interpretation of shared spaces and nomadism, due to the lack of its own building. The investigation falls within the field of History of School Institutions and is based on the assumptions of Escolano (1998), Frago (1998; 2001), Gatti Junior (2002), Magalhães (1996; 1998). We collected data from online repositories and bibliography in the area, selecting iconography (photographs, paintings) and educational legislation as sources for research. The objective is to investigate the trajectory of space-sharing occurrences that the Escola Normal de São Paulo went through in its period of nomadism until it acquired its own building. The Escola Normal da Praça was the pioneer in ending nomadism in Brazil, influencing the acquisition of its own facilities for other Normal Schools in the country's capitals.
