A DECADE OF RESEARCH ON THE HISTORY OF RURAL EDUCATION IN BRAZIL (2012 - 2022)

Abstract

This text is a bibliographical essay about the production of research on the history of rural education in Brazil, in the last decade, demarcating the reflection around the studies that have addressed the problems of elementary school and the formation and work of teachers for rural areas. The text begins by reconstituting the trajectory of the theme in the field of History of Education, highlighting the contribution of dissertations, theses and research projects. Then, it discusses some issues considered relevant to the debate on the theme, especially, the conceptual controversies, the historical production of the difference between urban and rural schools, the relations and disagreements between scholasticovists and advocates of the ruralization of education, the transnational circulation of ideas, proposals and models for rural education, the complex situation of lay teachers and the scope and limits of rural normal schools and regional normal courses.

Rosa Fatima Souza-Chaloba, Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho" UNESP

ROSA FÁTIMA DE SOUZA-CHALOBA é professora titular em História da Educação na Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP, concurso realizado em 2016) e bolsista Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, nível 1B. Foi presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação (gestão 2019-2021) e atua como membro da Coordenação de Área de Ciências Humanas e Sociais (CHS III) da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo – FAPESP.

 Realizou o doutora em Educação na Universidade de São Paulo (1997),  doutorado-sanduiche  na Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (1995) e o Pós-Doutorado na School of Education, University of Wisconsin – Madison / EUA (2001). Realizou estágio no exterior na Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (2009), na Universidade de Lisboa (2012) e no Colégio de San Luis, San Luis de Potosi (2023).  É licenciada em Pedagogia pela Universidade Federal de Uberlândia e mestre em Educação pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas. É Professora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Faculdade de Filosofia e Ciências /UNESP/Campus de Marília.
