Aids in the Press: the construction of the epidemic image and the influency in the promotion of the citizenship

Abstract

The article brings a reflection about the quest for citizenship among people who have HIV/Aids in a society where the modern public sphere is based on the Press. How public sphere is formed in Brazil nowadays and what the rule is of mass media in relation to Aids epidemic in the last two decades. In spite of the contribution of Press, giving visibility to Aids epidemic in society, mass media has not yet contributed effectively so that people with HIV/Aids may have their civil rights granted without prejudice or discrimination.
