The article analyzes aspects of the career in Library Science in Brazil, described by the Classificação Brasileira de Ocupações (CBO) (2002) and edited by the Ministério do Trabalho e Emprego (MTE). It refers to the genesis of the description and the structuring of the activities in the field, included in the CBO, that has benefitted from the presence of professionals of various types of libraries. The activities listed for graduate librarians are compared to those that are performed by library technicians and by the library support staff, seeking to determine their correspondence, in order to identify the set of atributions and activities that are performed by the various segments that make up, really and legally, the Brazilian community of librarianship. Conceptual and legal aspects are also approached, as well as structural aspects of the career in Library Science in Brazil; a hierarchization is proposed, that includes the library support staff, library technicians, graduate librarians and also postgraduates, having completed their graduate course in the field of Library Science or not.Downloads
