The register of invisible colors: Porto Alegre imagined in family albums
Keywords:
Family album. Photography. Imaginary. Black. Porto Alegre (RS).Abstract
This article presents the results of the research Project “Porto Alegre Imaginada” [Imagined Porto Alegre], highlighting the analysis made by the “Family Albums” group, which sought to learn, beyond official registration about people from Azores, about the contributions of another ethnical-racial group to the city’s richness and diversity. Interviewing and taking pictures of people who define themselves as “black”, listening to their accounts and stories while going through their photo albums, we tried to give visibility in this research to the trajectories of these citizens and of a city that usually remains unknown, both in official history and in the media. In this article, we want to contribute to the reflection on other city’s imaginaries, and think about what personal registrations and their narratives tell us about the place and the shared possibilities and meanings.Downloads
