This article presents the results of the radio segment of the research Porto Alegre Imaginada: representações dos cidadãos sobre a cidade [Imagined Porto Alegre: citizens’ representations on the city], collective research Project developed between 2007 and 2009 at Fabico/UFRGS. Using the methodology established by Silva (2004), 24 hours and 10 minutes of local radio station programs were analyzed, considering the following analytical axes: sound, phonic-linguistic, time and objects presented in the narration. It was noticed that Porto Alegre, in the chosen radio narratives, is an non-centered city. In its ubiquitous service and companion condition, radio acts as the subjects’ guide for physical mobility, accomplishing the functions of city’s thermometer and chronometer. It reveals the metropolis condition, but also the slower timing of suburbs.Downloads
