The social responsibility of the journalist and the thought of Paulo Freire

In this essay I plan to discuss some aspects of the journalist’s social responsibility based on some of Paulo Freire’s ideas. This concern comes from my understanding that jour-nalism is not only a set of techniques, neither do I accept that a journalist plays the role of a simple news producer. To fulfill my intent, my starting point will be one of his most classical works, entitled “The commitment of the professional with society” and, through his thinking, I will reflect about certain dilemmas of a professional – and of the profession itself –, in addition to having dialogues with other contemporary thinkers who could contribute to the understanding of the subject.Downloads
