Abstract

The last decades have favored the growth of interest and studies on journalism ethics. In Brazil and in other places, approaches over this subject have been most often by a deontological or utilitarian nature. In this article, we draw attention to a perspective that privileges the virtues as starting points for discussions about the conduct of journalists. A virtue ethics refers to Aristotle and the Stoics, but has been taken up by more contemporary authors such as Macintyre and Comte-Sponville, among others. In journalism, this approach is not definitive, but contributes to a broader understanding of the discussion, even drawing attention to useful, practical and current ethical guidelines.
