This text aims to present a review of the book Le malheur militant, published in 2022 in France and not yet translated into Portuguese. Situated within the framework of the sociology of militant engagement, the work, organized by Catherine Leclerq, Olivier Fillieule, and Rémi Lefebvre, represents one of the current strands of research in this field. More than merely outlining the main themes and aspects of the book, this review seeks to situate it within the broader context of the transformations that la sociologie du militantisme has undergone in recent decades. Seeking to contribute to the debate on the development of this theoretical and methodological approach—still incipient in Brazilian sociology— the text highlights its main contribution: shedding light on the challenges and potentialities of sociological analyses that combine individual trajectories and emotions in the understanding of militant activity, particularly the sadness, suffering, and distress that pervade militant life.
