Este texto aprecia criticamente a mais nova edição do clássico Mente, Self e Sociedade de George Herbert Mead, preparada por Hans Joas e Daniel Huebner e recentemente traduzida ao português e publicada no Brasil. O exame das suas ideias principais contextualiza a psicologia social que ele sistematiza no pensamento de Mead e no universo conceitual do pragmatismo, em especial junto às influências recebidas pelo autor de James e Dewey. Isto será acompanhado de uma discussão sobre os problemas editoriais que envolvem o volume e seu editor original, Charles W. Morris, com referência ao debate contemporâneo sobre sua legitimidade no conjunto da obra de Mead. Conclui-se que esta nova edição contribui para a adoção de uma abordagem mais alinhada à postura teórica do próprio Mead para a reflexão sobre a sua obra.
