IMPLEMENTATION OF BEST PRACTICES OF CLINICAL NURSING SUPERVISION

AN EXPERIENCE REPORT

Abstract

The objective of this study is to report the experience of implementing the best evidence-based practices in
clinical nursing supervision, using health education and health education practices. This is an implementation study using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology, conducted between 2017 and 2019, in two Medical Clinics of municipal public hospitals in São Paulo – Brasil, with the participation of a group of professors, graduate students nurses and nurses from both hospitals. The basic audit process, considering the criteria - based on the best practices available in clinical nursing supervision from JBI, was carried out. The identification of barriers to the implementation of these criteria was carried out, jointly, with the proposition of actions, which were developed based on health education practices, with a view to
enabling the autonomy and engagement of nurses in the implementation of the best practices in clinical supervision of Nursing. Finally, a new cycle of auditing of these criteria was initiated, denoting the implementation of most evidence-based practices, which provides greater quality and safety in the care provided. The qualification offered to nurses - as recommended by health education, the systematization of records of clinical supervision activities and the development of organizational policy that recognizes nurses as clinical supervisor and, consequently, care manager is fundamental. The implementation of health practices must come from evidence, which requires robust methodologies, such as the one recommended by
the JBI, to ensure the adoption of practices that translate into quality, which was configured with a unique experience to those involved in this project. Therefore, the implementation of clinical nursing supervision, through health education and health education practices, recognized the nurse as a care manager and enhancer of safe and quality practices.
