EXPERIENCES OF THE SUPERVISED INTERNSHIP OF THE INDIGENOUS COLLECTIVE HEALTH MANAGEMENT COURSE HELD AT THE IMMIGRANT REFERENCE CENTER – BOA VISTA – RORAIMA

Abstract

This report aims to describe the experience of the student of the Indigenous Collective Health Management course – Insikiran Institute of Indigenous Higher Education of the Federal University of Roraima – during the internship period, identifying the dynamics of operation of the Immigrant Reference Center (CRI) and the conditions of access to the health services of the Warao people. Supervised Internship I was held at the Immigrant Reference Center, located in Boa Vista, Roraima, between November and December 2017. It was possible to observe the daily life of the Warao indigenous peoples in the shelter that were housed in the center and participate in health education activities. The difficulties observed were those related to access and referral to the Basic Health Units of the municipality and problems in care, especially related to communication with professionals of the Unified Health System (SUS). Challenges related to the urban context were also identified, such as the expression of the culture and ways of life of indigenous peoples, as well as access to income and employment, school, housing. The problem-solutive health care of indigenous immigrants should consider that the conceptions about health-disease-care for indigenous peoples involve complex relationships between the individual and the community, being different from the conceptions of Western society.
