THE GENESIS OF URBAN SPACE AS AN ABYSS IN TWO NARRATIVES BY CONCEIÇÃO EVARISTO

Abstract

In this work, we will focus on the displacements and perceptions of space created through the movement of bodies that transit in the in-between places, marking a (non)belonging, a recurring theme on the literary texts produced by black women. Considering that some theoreticians of space studies, as Massey (2008, p. 69), can discusses with the concept of "erosion of the heterogenous space", by Foucault (2013, s/p), by emphasizing the spatial affection that the bodies, socially marginalized, suffer in the global contexts of power (BHABHA, 1998, p. 292). For that matter, we will investigate the representation of two nominated space, respectively, from Buracão to Grota, in the romance Becos da Memória (2017) and in the short story "Grota Funda" (2017), by Conceição Evaristo. Therefore, we will be based on the discussions of Conceição Evaristo (2005), Nazareth Fonseca (2017), Simone Schmidt (2016), among others. Furthermore, the hypothesis that will orientate this study is that the abysm representation, in the short story, has its genesis in the romance, in the Buracão of the Favela.

Francis Willams Brito da Conceição, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE)

Doutorando em Teoria da Literatura pelo Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE). Mestre em Letras - Área de concentração Literatura, Teoria e Crítica - pelo Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras (PPGL) da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB). Possui Graduação em Licenciatura Plena em Letras -- Língua e Literaturas Vernáculas pela Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB). Tem interesse pelas Teorias da Colonialidade, pelos Estudos Topoanalíticos em romances históricos contemporâneos, pela investigação das produções literárias de autoras africanas em Língua Portuguesa (séc. XX-XXI) e pelo romance histórico produzido por mulheres no Contexto Latino-americano (séc. XIX-XXI). Participa do Grupo de Pesquisa Estudos Coloniais Latino-americanos (DGP/CNPq), coordenado pelo Prof. Dr. Alfredo Adolfo Cordiviola (PPGL/UFPE), e do GIELLUS - Grupo Interdisciplinar de Estudos Literários Lusófonos (DGP/CNPq), coordenado pela Profa. Dra. Aldinida Medeiros (PPGLI/UEPB).

Alfredo Adolfo Cordiviola, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco

Alfredo Cordiviola é Licenciado em Letras pela Universidade de Buenos Aires (1986), Mestre em Teoria da Literatura pela UFPE (1993) e Doutor em Estudos Hispânicos e Latino-americanos pela University of Nottingham , Reino Unido (1998). Completou um pós-doutorado na Universidade de Buenos Aires (2011-2012) e foi Visiting Scholar na New York University (2016-2017). É Professor Titular em Teoria da Literatura e leciona no Departamento de Letras e no Programa de Pós-graduação em Letras da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. Pesquisador 1D do CNPQ, dirige o Grupo de pesquisa Estudos Coloniais Latino-americanos. Ocupa-se de um vasto conjunto de aspectos da literatura e da teoria, relativos em particular aos estudos latino-americanos, os estudos culturais e os estudos utópicos. Seus dois últimos livros publicados foram Objetos de memória. Materialidades do passado na America Colonial (2019) e A espera constante. Escrita e esquecimento no México do século XVIII (2021).
