Abstract

This article deals with Parásitos Perfectos (2024), a book by the Colombian writer Luis Carlos Barragán Castro. First of all, the paper underlines the concept of Anthropocene, and the idea of interscalability that it entails. Thus, this study emphasizes the fact that the Anthropocene involves a certain paradox regarding human agency, that may be grasped by the concept of trans-corporeality, created by Alaimo (2010) in order to designate the relation between the human body and the matter that surrounds it. Secondly, the paper presents the way in which Barragán Castro’s scientific fiction explores the ambivalences of the Anthropocene. The conclusion is that Barragán Castro’s book shows the marks of the trans-corporeality and the agential realism (Barad, 2007), in contrast to the alleged alienation that pertains to the Anthropocene.
