A tribute to Martín-Barbero: making memory of paths

The study is based on a lecture given in honor of the 30 years of From the media to mediations in December 2017. It is presented in three parts: the author's links with the thought of Martín-Barbero and some links between testimonies of Martín-Barbero and his theoretical thought. In the end, there are some comments about the circulation of the Map of Communicative Mediations and its uses in the Brazilian academic context and empirical research. The last section does not intend to address a critical debate, it simply documents the use of the Map in empirical research in the first decade of the 21st century. Even though the listing is not comprehensive, there are evidences pointing to the fact that the Map still remains to be further explored. In all three sections, we intend to evoke personal narratives, both from the celebrated author and from the author of this text, which are entangled in their collective intellectual journeys.
