O Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA) tem como um de seus objetivos institucionais a realização de pesquisas científicas na área da saúde. O Grupo de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação (GPPG) é a estrutura responsável pela coordenação destas atividades de pesquisa no HCPA.
O HCPA tem o compromisso de garantir os direitos e o bem-estar dos participantes de projetos de pesquisa realizados na Instituição. O HCPA tem um Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa e uma Comissão Científica que são responsáveis pela avaliação e acompanhamento de todos os estudos científicos, em todas as suas fases, do planejamento à divulgação.
