A sexualidade feminina é um processo extraordinariamente complexo. O modelo de resposta sexual humana proposto por Masters & Johnson e revisado por Kaplan assume uma progressão linear a partir da percepção do desejo sexual, passando para a excitação com um foco genital, depois para o orgasmo e, finalmente, para a resolução. Embora os aspectos psicossociais e de relacionamento da sexualidade feminina tenham sido amplamente investigados, estudos sobre anatomia, fisiologia e patofisiologia da função e disfunção sexual feminina ainda são limitados. Neste artigo, é apresentado esse modelo e são discutidos aspectos fisiológicos e disfuncionais da sexualidade feminina.
