Research on animal models
a guideline proposal
Keywords:
Research ethics, bioethics, animal models, animal rightsAbstract
Since ancient times, animals have been used in scientific experiments and continue being used in numerous medical investigations. Research with animal models has
been fundamental for findings in the biomedical area, such as blood pressure regulation, for example. Contrarily to many countries that have laws regulating research with animal models, there is no such legislation in Brazil. Animals used in research models should
be treated appropriately and researchers must avoid unnecessary pain and suffering.
