Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the hegemonic traditions in science curricula in the 1990’s, with regard to gender difference, using other referential systems as a counterpoint. It analyses the best-selling textbooks in the period, seeing them as an operative dimension of the curriculum and treating them as cultural products. The difference is conceived in the intersection between the anthropological and postcolonial psychoanalytic matrix approaches. It concludes that the curricula, besides biologizing and individualizing the man/woman difference, reducing it to reproduction, intensify it when generizing other spheres of sciences. The cultural burden of the concepts of feminine and masculine is reduced, with the universalization of the difference not only for different cultural groups, but to beyond mankind.
