The articles, dossiers, translations and other modalities of texts received are submitted to a preliminary evaluation by the Journal Editors, who will examine whether they comply with the requirements of authorship, topics and formal aspects. After this analysis they are sent anonymously to two ad hoc reviewers (peer review process), and they have to be approved by both for publication. If there is a difference of opinion between the reviewers, the texts are sent to a third reviewers. The evaluators may recommend that they be accepted, refused or indicate mandatory revisions. In this case the reformulated article returns to the Editors for a final evaluation.
The publication of the texts means automatically that the copyrights are assigned to História da Educação. In texts that utilize images, citations of literary works or pages of the World Wide Web, the author must also include an authorization to transfer the respective rights.
The texts undergo the following stages of evaluation:
Stage 1: analysis of the form
This stage is the responsibility of the editors. The texts are evaluated regarding their adequation to the general criteria of the journal and its editorial line.
Articles that are configured as: 1) reports of experience; 2) bibliographical review; 3) part of a dissertation or thesis, without the appropriate adaptation; 4)project or research report are returned to the authors. Also returned to the authors are those that do not focus their problems on the field of History of Education; that have excessive errors of writing and also of text structure and that do not comply with the editorial rules of the journal.
Stage 2: peer analysis regarding merit
In the second stage, the article, without author identification, is sent to at least two reviewers who work in the specific field of the topic of the work (members of the editorial board, or ad hoc invited reviewers).
The criteria for the evaluation of the text take into account: 1) formal aspects; 2) currentness and relevance of the topic; 3) originality and that it has not been published before; 4) clear indication of the objectives and methodology of the research. 5) up to date theoretical discussion; 6) adaptation of bibliograpy to the ABNT standards (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards); 7) the documents to be published or attached should be articulated to the text.
The reviewers may accept completely, accept with conditions or refuse the article. Any one of the situations is justified by a descriptive report.

a) when both reviewers accept the work, it goes on to the next phase;
b) when both reviewers refuse the work, the article is returned to the author and filed in the journal system;
c) when one or two reviewers indicate reformulations, the work is returned to the author so that they can consider the reports and reformulate the article within a twenty-day (20) period. All the changes should be make in a different color. When the author resends the reformulated text and shows that they have followed the reviewers’ revisions, it is reevaluated.
