A breve história de Ethelvina: caridade, filantropia e assistência à infância em Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul (1875-1900)
Abstract
O presente estudo centra-se no último quarto do século 19 a fim de abarcar o contexto gerador e o processo histórico da construção social da idéia de maternidade intensiva e de medicalização da infância, como projetos republicanos de reforma social. A cidade de Pelotas - RS é tomada como Iócus de análise por apresentar um desenvolvimento de destaque no contexto rio-grandense desse período. Essa situação de destaque caracteriza-se pelo enaltecimento à cultura e pela busca da civilidade dos costumes, combinados à prosperidade econômica Entre a caridade e a filantropia, são criadas a Roda dos Expostos e o Asilo de Órfãos como dispositivos de proteção à infância.

Abstract
The study's center is the last quarter of the nineteen-century with the finality to encircle the generator context of the ideologies: intensive maternity and infancy's medicalization, like republicans projects of the social reform the Pelotas city/RS is na analyses place because it shows a eminence development in rio-grandense context, characterized by cultural reverence and by search of the civilized customs, combined with a prosperity economic. Between the charity and philanthropy, are created the Roda dos Expostos and the Asilo de Órfãos like dispositives of the childhood protection.
