Arquitetura de escolas no século 19: primeiras escolas construídas no Brasil
Abstract
Pela observação dos programas arquitetônicos de escolas publicados na França, numa revista de arquitetura do século 19, podemos perceber que aqui, no Brasil, quando se começou a construir prédios próprios a escolas, na segunda metade daquele século, seguiram-se também programas que foram, provavelmente, baseados naqueles, mas com as devidas adaptações às nossas necessidades e possibilidades. As primeiras escolas construídas estavam no Rio de Janeiro, capital do Império, e a escolha das que foram construídas pelo arquiteto Francisco Joaquim Bethencourt da Silva se justifica por ter sido ele autor do maior número de edifícios apropriados a diferentes tipos de escolas. A análise delas nos ajudarão a comprovar a existência e utilização dos programas, que poderiam ser mais ou menos específicos, dependendo das características do ensino pretendido.

Abstract
Through the observation of school’s architectonical programs published in France, in an architecture magazine of the 19th century, we can notice that here, in Brazil, when the construction of schools proper buildings started, on the second half of that century, some programs were initiated probably based on those ones, taking in account our needs and possibilities. The earliest schools built were in Rio de Janeiro, capital of the Empire, and the chosing of those built by the architect Francisco Joaquim Bethencourt da Silva is justified by the fact that he was the author of the vast majority of buildings specific to the different types of schools. Theirs study will help us to prove the program's existence and utilization, which could have been more or less specific, depending on the characteristics of what was intended to teach.
