O Seminário de Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte: história de uma instituição educativa mineira (1750-1835)
Abstract
The present text aims to analyze an educational institution in Minas Gerais, founded in 1750 in the city of Mariana, Minas Gerais, called 'Episcopal Seminary of Our Lady of the Good Death.' It aims to present the main developments in the history of this institution between the years 1750 and 1835. As it is a confessional educational institution, the development of this work will follow the periods of the bishops of the Diocese of Mariana, who had a decisive impact on the functioning of the educational activities of this institution. Primary sources such as letters, official documents, and regulations were used. The text includes an introduction, which situates the seminary in the context of priestly formation in Colonial Brazil, and three parts. The first addresses the foundation and the early years of operation. The second discusses the seminary during the period of the procurators and the late 18th century. And the third presents the seminary in the first decades of the 19th century.
