A maçonaria gaúcha e a defesa do ensino laico no período da república velha
Abstract
O presente artigo discute a influência da maçonaria na história das idéias políticas no Rio Grande do Sul durante o período da República Velha (1889-1930). O estudo toma como ponto de partida a atuação maçônica no campo educacional, onde tal influência se constituiu num fator importante para a construção de pressupostos laicos e seculares no desenvolvimento das políticas e instituições de ensino. Esses pressupostos se confrontaram diretamente em razão da crescente influência católica, principalmente no período em questão.

Abstract
The present is a discussion about the influence of the masonry in the history of the political ideas in Rio Grande do Sul during de Old Republic (1889-1930). The study starts wilh the masonic action in the educational field, where is influence was an important factor to the construction of the laical and secular presuppositions in the development of the policies and teaching institutions. Those presuppositions were directly confronted because of the increasing calholic influence, mainly in that period.
