A questão dos vales escolares - USA
Abstract
Abstract
In this presentation, I will be examining a current controversial topic in educational policy, school vouchers. Unlike many analyses of educational reforms which ignore the past, I will be using a previous incident in history to shed light on the important antecedents of the voucher debate. This episode, the School Question of the 1840s, involved a movement to publicly fund Catholic schools in New York City. I believe that many of the roots of today's voucher debate can be found in earlier struggles over common schools such as the one I am studying. In this way, I will use history to understand present educational policy.
