Abstract
Abstract
This research aims to present a pedagogical method, the Bacadafa Method, for the teaching of reading and writing, proposed and used by a number of teachers in primary schools of the Imperial Court, between the years of 1870 and 1880. The analysis of the emergence of such a teaching method allows us to realize the dynamics of the development of knowledge and disciplines within the city’s primary schools at the end of the 19th century. The command and development of knowledge as well as school disciplines conferred on the court’s primary school teachers a relative autonomy in relation to the regulations and official norms of the City’s Public Schooling Inspectorate. Knowledge, methods and school disciplines were, thus, permanently acquired, (re)elaborated and (re)invented in and by the experiences and pedagogical practices of the teachers and their pupils.
Keywords: Method and school disciplines; knowledge and pedagogical practices; educational history on imperial Court.
