Nas primeiras décadas do século XX, observa-se uma cultura fotográfica adentrando o cotidiano escolar brasileiro. No Rio Grande do Sul, e em sua capital, Porto Alegre, é principalmente o poder público que utiliza a fotografia com a finalidade de documentação e divulgação das obras realizadas. Entre essas imagens destacam-se as fotografias das edificações escolares. A edificação escolar tornava visível a educação na cidade, ao passo que sua imagem fotográfica criava representações de uma sociedade civilizada, moderna e científica, sintetizada na imagem da escola-monumento.

A SCHOOL TO BE SEEN: NOTES ON PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF PORTO ALEGRE IN THE EARLY DECADES OF THE 21ST CENTURY
Abstract
In the early decades of the 21st century, a photography culture could be seen taking part of the day-by-day of Brazilian schools. In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and its capital city, Porto Alegre, it was public power that especially used photography targeting the documentation and the spreading of the works achieved. Among these images, we highlight the photographs of school buildings. The building of a school made school education visible in the city, whereas its photographic image created representations of a civilized society, scientific and modern, synthesized in the image of the school-monument.

UNA ESCUELA A SER VISTA: APUNTES SOBRE IMÁGENES FOTOGRÁFICAS DE PORTO ALEGRE EN LAS PRIMERAS DÉCADAS DEL SIGLO XX

En las primeras décadas del siglo XX, se observa una cultura fotográfica dentro del cotidiano escolar brasilero. En Río Grande del Sur, y en su capital, Porto Alegre, es principalmente el poder público que utiliza la fotografía con la finalidad de documentación y divulgación de las obras realizadas. Entre esas imágenes se destacan las fotografías de las edificaciones escolares. La edificación escolar se tornaba visible la educación en la ciudad, al paso que su imagen fotográfica criaba representaciones de una sociedad civilizada, moderna y científica, sintetizada en la imagen de la escuela monumento.

UNE ÉCOLE À VOIR: NOTES SUR DES IMAGES PHOTOGRAPHIQUES DE PORTO ALEGRE DANS LES PREMIÈRES DÉCENNIES DU XXÈME SIÈCLE
Résumé
Dans les premières décennies du XXème siècle on observe une culture photographique qui se mêle dans la vie scolaire brésilienne. Au Rio Grande do Sul et dans sa capitale, Porto Alegre, c’est surtout la puissance publique qui utilise la photographie dans le but de documenter et de divulguer les oeuvres réalisées. Parmi ces images, l’on remarque les photos des bâtiments scolaires. Le bâtiment scolaire rendait visible l’éducation dans la ville, tandis que son image photographique créait des représentations d’une société civilisée, moderne et scientifique, synthétisée dans l’image de l’écolemonument.
