TEACHER TRAINING DURING THE FRANCO DICTATORSHIP:

ADVANCES AND CONTRADICTIONS (1959-1975)

Authors

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the change and evolution of teacher training in Spain during the last stage of the dictatorship (1959-1975) known as the late Francoist period. For this purpose, the historical-educational method has been employed, using various primary sources -documentation, reports and legislation-, which have been complemented with the NO-DO (acronym of Noticiarios and Documentales) as it was the main propaganda tool of the regime. It is concluded that, although during the late Francoist period a model of teaching renovation gained strength and was consolidated during the years of the educational reform of 1970, a traditional and conservative model, reluctant to pedagogical changes, continued to persist.
