Numerical study of the conection between concrete filled steel column, precast concrete beam and hollow core slab

Beam-column connections are one of the main topics of study in prefabricated structures, whether precast concrete, steel, or steel-concrete composite, due to the unique behavior of these regions and their influence on the global stability of structures. This research presents a numerical study and parametric analysis of a semi-rigid connection between concrete filled steel column and a precast concrete beam. The main resistant components of the connection are the dowel welded to the steel corbel and the negative reinforcement. The numerical model was developed prioritizing representativeness combined with optimized processing time and was validated through bending moment vs. displacement, bending moment vs. rotation, and bending moment vs. strain curves of the continuity bars. The parametric study varied the rate and arrangement of negative reinforcement, diameter and quantity of dowels, and hollow core slab height. The results indicated that the rate and arrangement of continuity reinforcement significantly influence the behavior under negative bending moment, while the diameter and quantity of dowels have a greater effect under positive bending moment. The hollow core slab height was the only parameter that had a significant impact on the connection behavior under both types of loading.
