Proposition of guidelines and framework for the circulation of materials obtained by building deconstruction strategies

The linear productive and economic pattern of civil construction results in high consumption of natural resources and a large volume of waste. The objective of this article is to propose guidelines and a framework for the application of circular practices in the construction sector, through the deconstruction of buildings. To this end, a systematic literature review was carried out to identify the types of materials, components, elements and construction systems most suitable for deconstruction. The results indicated that buildings constructed with prefabricated items, structural steel systems and wooden buildings have greater potential for deconstruction. Furthermore, 26 guidelines grouped into four requirements (design, durability, disassembly and circularity) were defined to support the deconstruction and maintenance of the life cycle of recovered construction products. The proposed framework summarizes the theoretical contribution of the work in an intuitive conceptual structure applicable to companies in the construction sector. The work expands understanding of the topic and presents an innovative approach to a framework associated with best practices to promote the circularity of materials, components and constructive elements through the use of deconstruction.
