Abstract

In Brazil, large amounts of ornamental stone processing waste (OSPW) are generated annually, mainly destined for landfills, creating a worrying environmental liability. To contribute to solutions that minimize its disposal and add technical value to this material, this paper recommends using this waste to produce permeable paving. To this end, pervious concretes were produced in the shape of interlocking blocks (pavers), containing levels of 0, 5, 10, and 15% of OSPW in replacement (by volume) of Portland cement. Permeability, porosity, and mechanical strength tests were conducted based on the prescriptions of NBR 16416:2015. For the mechanical strength results, the pieces with 5% and 10% replacement reached the minimum characteristic strength (FPK). In comparison, the paver with 15% of cement replacement by OSPW did not obtain a satisfactory result. The results of porosity and permeability were satisfactory, with results above 16.6% and 5,000 millimeters per hour, respectively, for all mixtures tested.
