This essay consists of two parts. In the first part, the author explains the concept of “undisciplined gaze” and also revisits the most important notions formulated in her book The Insubordination of Photography: photographic practice, expanding photographic field, and depth of field. The second part addresses the different documentary reverberations of Lonquen. Regarding the criminal file of this emblematic case—a file to which the general public has full access since 2018—the author explains why she considers it necessary (as well as significant) the gesture of not showing the forensic evidence consigned there.
