Creating A Livable Life For Oneself: An Essay On Trickery

This essayistic article takes the notion of trickery as a field of discursive dispute, problematizing gestures
that circumvent laws, rules, and social norms, as well as actions that navigate violent structures such as
racism, machismo, classism, and religious intolerance. Treated as an invention of possibilities, the trickery
discussed here is the opposite of what appears in the dictionary. The article adopts the non-methodical
methodology of the essay, considering trickery as both object and the experimentation of thought as
field. Concepts such as civil disobedience, the social contract, and the poetics of relation are brought into
dialogue with trickery. Within these networks, one can observe how trickery assumes specific tonalities in
Brazil, participating in the entanglements that uphold the country. Trickery is highlighted here as one way
of playing with power—turning the system’s gaps and inconsistencies into spaces of inventive creation.
