Sense of cultural identities negotiated in Piauí media reception of the Ballet Folklorico de Teresina

This research aims to understand the sense of identity built in media reception of the Ballet Folklorico de Teresina (BFT), Piauí. The qualitative methodology of focus, the application was based on interviews with a sample composed of 12 receivers residents of Teresina-PI. These were streamlined by exposure of a DVD showing various dances from Piauí. The receptors expressed conceptions of identities piauienses equally to the northeast. Meanings of social exclusion when the receptors were expressed to allude to the economic misery of the people because of drought Piauí. Sense of tradition were checked at the reception when they drafted resistance to reformulations of the choreography dances shown by BFT. Other receptors expressed sense of cultural translation in defending reformulations in local folk dances. We conclude that the media messages of BFT acted as mediator and co-producer of multiple meanings with cultural identity to recipients.Downloads
