Imaginary maps about Porto Alegre: representations of the city in the movies

This article presents the research procedures and the outcomes obtained in the subgroup Movies, from the research Porto Alegre imaginada: representações dos cidadãos sobre a cidade. Along of the years 2007 and 2008, the films produced and shown in Porto Alegre were mapped in different formats and supports and after, it was made the analysis of the corpus according to the proposal categories of the general project of the research. The purpose was to understand how the city was observed and represented in the cinematographic audiovisual images. In the analysis, we noticed the visual and sounding aesthetics, the narrative structure and the main themes. The city that rises on the screen of the movies is surely very different from the imaginary that exists about the real city.
