This research seeks to understand the informational behavior of the students who have won the Young Scientist Award (Prêmio Jovem Cientista) through the investigation of their actions, thoughts, feelings and strategies in carrying out academic research. Nine students from college majors such as Foreign Trade, Communication, Graphic Design, Law, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physiotherapy, International Relations and Technology in Productivity and Quality Management were interviewed in 2008. The categories chosen to analyze the informational behavior were specific literature reviewing, establishment of research focus, selection and use of information sources, writing and final presentation of the students’ work. It is possible to state that the ISP Model is a reliable method for understanding the informational behavior of youth in the practice of academic research. The Young Scientist Award can be considered a milestone in the life of its winners with regard to research learning process, social recognition and professional career development.Downloads
